🚨 Announcement on Changes to PGWP and Spousal Open Work Permit as of January 22, 2024 🚨

βœ… Study Permit Quota Reduced by 35% From 2024, approximately 360,000 study permits will be approved, representing a 35% decrease compared to the previous year.

βœ… PGWP Issuance Restriction Students enrolled in private universities offering programs with the same curriculum as public universities (through curriculum licensing arrangements) will no longer be eligible for PGWP upon graduation.

βœ… PGWP Extended to 3 Years Starting September 1, graduates of master’s and short-term graduate-level programs can apply for a 3-year PGWP, allowing for more work experience and smoother transition to permanent residency.

βœ… Spousal Open Work Permit Issuance Restriction Spouses of international students pursuing levels of study other than master’s and doctoral degrees will no longer be eligible for an open work permit, excluding spouses of students in master’s and doctoral programs.
